MTV Announces “True Life: I’m a Fanboy”

Published by cynthialeigh at 10:40 pm under 1 Edit This

The MTV cable channel’s True Life documentary series has announced a casting call for an upcoming “True Life: I’m a Fanboy” episode that will profile fans of anime, manga, comics, and fantasy novels. Cosplaying and overnight lining before movie premieres or book releases will be among the examples of fan activities the documentary plans to look at, while issues to be highlighted include fandom interfering with work or school, and being misunderstood by parents and significant others. Potential participants (both male and female) who would like to appear on the show must be between the ages of 16 and 28 and are asked to submit an application, along with their name, e-mail address, phone, and a recent photo to fanboy@mtvnet.com.

Since it premiered in 1998, True Life’s episodes have looked at such themes as addiction to crystal meth, returning from service in Iraq, stuttering, and not trusting one’s boyfriend or girlfriend. It has since been honored by awards from the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation, the Entertainment Industries Council, and the NAACP.
