Cosplay “photography”…

Published by cynthialeigh under 1 Edit This

The relationship between “layers” and “cameko” is well-known through out the cosplay community, but relatively unknown everywhere else.  “Con photographers” are a welcomed and expected sight at conventions and it’s often a very small and exclusive circle.  In recent years however I have seen predominantely mainstream photographers branching out to cosplayers and conventions alike to perhaps garner something for their portfolio that isn’t being offered by regular models.

Books like “Fandomania”, and Steve Schofield’s “Land of the Free” gallery, are only increasing this move by pushing cosplay further into the public eye.  Coincidentially, both projects also illustrate cosplayers as more than just “nerds in costumes”, but in fact, give a humanizing effect through their quirky, uncharacterist photos.

I’m hoping in the future to continue to see further transitioning from the photographers in the modeling industry as they try to grasp something that they consider to be “missing”.
